When All Else Fails, I Can Talk Booze
On Beer:
So there's been some excitment lately among the Shiner familiarus crowd over the beer's recent introduction into the city. However, while I do like a nice cold Shiner, I have to admit that the local beer in the Midwest is much, much more intriguing to me than anything I encountered in the South/Southwest (That even includes you, beloved Abita.)
Here are some of my favorites so far:
Leinenkugel Brewery. I recently introduced myself to the Sunset Wheat which is very refreshing and different. It makes me smile. I also like their red lager. It makes me smile too.
Great Lakes Brewing Company has some solid selections. Holy Moses, Burning River and Edmund Fitzgerald rock. As in, they are so good they will melt your face.
Then of course there's Goose Island. Mike's been grabbing up their Matilda which is liquid gold, as well as the Imperial IPA and Demolition. As far as everyday beers, the 312 and Honker's Ale are readily available at most bars, which to me is a most welcome departure from standard domestics, and their regular IPA and Summertime brew are drinkalicious. I made that word up. But it's true.
Piece has some good brews, although the few times I've been there I've been too drunk to remember exactly what I was drinking. Their pizza is good too.
I've seen Three Floyds circulating on the barbecue circuit, but I'm not sure that I've tried any. Their labels are interesting. Perhaps it will be my next choice.
